This is a recent commission for San Migel
(Spanish beer co)
The brief:
"Based around the Valencian
festival of Las Fallas and the ‘Carnival of Our Fathers’ from the ATL we
will bring the passion, excitement and energy of a Spanish fiesta to the
streets of London.
We will
create a procession of characters all dressed in a range of over sized
Spanish inspired papier-mache masks creating an atmosphere that is
theatrical, passionate, loud but slightly sinister."
The Carnival Arts group were commissioned to make the
heads with back-packs. We used bamboo and willow whithys to make the
structure, muslin and latex solution for the skin, then painted the heads
with a good quality acrylic paint and varnished the finished product for
durability.
The results as you can see are big, bold, colourful and
lively a real eye-catcher for the procession.
