The Carnival Arts group have
been involved with a wide range of community project from the very first venture
when we started
in 1996. The group was created in response to the need for an artistic input
into the Hereford Carnival. That year we ran two weeks of carnival workshops at
a local youth club that were open to all participants. We provided a range of
materials and equipment and staffed the site with experienced Community Artists.
It was a great success with some amazing creations joining the carnival that
year.
Since then we have been
involved in many different community events such a Hereford Council funded
project to create an Andy Goldsworthy inspired temporary sculpture area in a
local woodland with children and young people, working with a local group of
adults with learning difficulties to create an instillation in which they then
performed a play they had devised. We have worked with children’s summer play
schemes in south Hereford city, co-ordinating workshops collimating in a
children’s parade at the South Wye Big Event. We have been part of an umbrella
group that ran several, community one day events, with live music performed by
local musicians and family workshops among other attractions. In 2002 with
MENCAP in Birmingham, produced a series of sessions at a weekend arts and
theatre family event providing an arts input and a children’s summer club for
children in Wolverhampton.
We even ran children’s
workshops in a shopping centre for three summers!
We are flexible and able to
offer a wide range of workshops to suit the needs of community groups large and
small. We have experience of co-ordinating events, administrating budgets and
working closely with other providers and organisations. We always aim to run
workshops that meet the aspirations of those involved and provide a stimulating
and enjoyable experience.
